FHP reports serious injury crash in Hendry; woman attempted to regulate traffic suffers serious injuries

A 72-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after stepping out of her vehicle and attempting to help her family member maneuver back onto State Road 80, according to information released by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The woman, Jordan White Snidow, 72, of Midlothian, Va., was transported by Lee Flight to Lee Memorial Hospital in Ft. Myers, where she is listed in serious but stable condition.

The incident happened at approximately 8:18 p.m., at the intersection of Al Don Farming Road and State Road 80, midway between Clewiston and LaBelle.

According to a report of the accident, Ms. Snidow was traveling with family member Conley Trigg Snidow, 73, when she stepped out of the vehicle, a 2008 GMC Yukon with a tow trailer attached, to help the driver re-enter State Road 80.

At the same time, a second vehicle, a 2007 Toyota Corolla driven by Patricia M. Colon, 57, of Moore Haven, was heading east on State Road 80. Ms. Snidow, in an attempt to regulate eastbound traffic on State Road 80, was outside of the vehicle when the Corolla struck the left rear of the tow trailer.

The impact from that crash sent the trailer hurling in an eastward direction, striking Ms. Snidow.

Neither of the drivers was injured in the crash. FHP reports that both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Florida Highway Patrol says that alcohol did not play a factor in the crash, and are reporting that no charges have yet been filed as an investigation is carried out.
