Warm, sunny weather, top country talent and plenty of free activities for families were a winning formula for the 2017 Clewiston Sugar Festival.
Throngs of people came early and stayed late as they enjoyed sweet and savory favorites that ranged from deep fried Double Stuff Oreos and melt-in-your mouth iced mini-donuts to roasted sweet corn and novel egg rolls stuffed with a combination of burgers and macaroni and cheese.
One of the largest crowds in the event’s 31-year history included Glades-area residents as well as guests who came from the East and West Coasts. They enjoyed arts and crafts, a kids activity area and educational displays about sugarcane farming and the Army Corps of Engineers’ work on the Herbert Hoover Diike.
Country music great Trace Adkins had the crowd on their feet as he brought to life his popular hit Ladies Love Country Boys and many others. The crowd enjoyed Tracy Lawrence, Parmalee, Runaway Jane, and and JJ McCoy as well.
