Clewiston’s boat basin receives a mini-makeover

Public Works installed new guardrail, repainted the yellow lines on the curb and added six feather flags to promote the city of Clewiston during special events, among other things.

The Public Works Department went to work at the boat basin earlier this month, upgrading some of the existing features and adding new attractions to enhance the basin’s appearance.

According to Public Works Director Sean Scheffler, some of those upgrades included removing the cable fence that separated the parking lot from the grassy side of the levee and replacing it with a new metal guardrail.

The department also installed concrete posts behind the new guardrail to hang banners and sings that would advertise events and their sponsors, and placed three feather flags with the city of Clewiston insignia on either side of the concrete posts to promote the city and add color and appeal. The flags will only be used during events and will not stay up year-round.

Scheffler said these improvements were made “in an effort to upgrade and give the boat basin a new and better appearance.”

Scheffler also said the city has other improvements in mind, but is taking them “one step at a time.”
