Residents looking to reserve space at one of the city’s parks for birthday parties and other events will have to shell out a few more bucks to do so.
The City Commission approved with a 3-1 vote on a new fee schedule for renting space at certain parks and setting up inflatables and structures at those parks.
The new fees only apply to residents who would like to reserve space in advance for events.
To rent one of the four pavilions at Sweetest Town Playground, residents will pay $27.50 plus tax. To rent space at Sugar Festival Field, Sikes Park or Trinidad Park, the chickee by the Youth Center or the pavilion at the splash pad, residents will pay $55 plus tax. To rent the pavilion at Sugarland Park, residents will need to pay $82.50 plus tax.
These prices are for city of Clewiston and East Hendry County Recreation (Harlem, Hookers Point, Flaghole, Pioneer, LaDeca, Montura Ranch) residents only. All other residents would pay anywhere from $165 to $220 plus tax to rent.
Residents looking to set up an inflatable, tent or other such structure in the area they’ve rented would need to pay an additional $27.50 plus tax. Not all areas allow those structures either. Sweetest Town Playground pavilions no. 1 and 2, the Splash Pad pavilion and Sikes Park do not allow inflatables or tents.
Only Sugarland Park would allow for larger bounce houses and event structures, as well as amplified sound.
The fees were approved by the Clewiston City Commission by a 3-1 vote. Commissioner Julio Rodriguez voted against the motion and Commissioner Kristine Petersen was not present to vote.
The rental prices include a 10 percent capital improvement fee which will be allocated towards maintenance of buildings and parks.
Residents can make reservations for any of the parks or pavilions online at the Clewiston Recreation website by clicking on “Make a Reservation” under the “Facilities” tab at the top of the page.
