50 Acre Prescribed Burn at Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest

HENDRY COUNTY Caloosahatchee Forestry Center will be conducting a 40 acre prescribed burn on November 4 at Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest.  If the conditions are favorable additional acreage may be added to the burn with a max of 50 acres burned.
The prescribed fire will help prepare the area for a larger aerial ignition burn that will be conducted in the near future.   The burn will also help in reducing woody understory made up of saw palmetto, needle cast, leaf litter, and grassy surface fuels, which promotes habitat management.
The Florida Forest Service, a division of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, manages more than 1 million acres of state forests, provides management assistance on more than 17 million acres of private and community forests, while protecting homes, forestland and natural resources from the devastating effects of wildfire on more than 26 million acres.  Learn more at FloridaForestService.com.
