CHS Freshman Orientation set Aug. 1
Clewiston High School, 1501 Francisco St. in Clewiston, will hold a Freshmen orientation event called Tiger Takeoff on Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Parent orientation will be held at 8:30-9 a.m. A t-shirt and lunch is available for a $5 donation. Activities include a campus tour, team building, information session, avid strategies, and google classroom.

Florida B. Thomas Library
A financial literacy seminar will be given on Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Florida B. Thomas Library, 1008-1012 Harlem Academy Ave. in Clewiston. Learn how to manage your money, improve your credit score, and purchase a home.

Tax-free weekend set Aug. 3-5
Florida’s Back to School Sales Tax Holiday will be from Friday, Aug. 3 through Sunday, Aug. 5. The tax-free list can be viewed by visiting floridarevenue.com/backtoschool

Clewiston Cleanup set Aug. 4
The community of Clewiston can drop off and dispose of items including tires, yard debris, TVs, hazardous waste and more on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 9 a.m. until bins are full. The event is free. There will be food, drinks and music. Participants can enter to win a gift card. For information, call 863-775-5220.

Florida B. Thomas Library

Drug/Tobacco Free meeting
The Drug Free Hendry County Coalition and the Hendry Tobacco-Free Partnership meeting will be Aug. 9 at 4 p.m. at the Carlson Memorial United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 310 Campbell St. in LaBelle. Harlem pool days and hours set
The Harlem Community Pool, 2001 10th St. in Clewiston, is now open on all the Saturdays in August, the 11th, 18th and 25th, on Sept. 1 and on Labor Day, Sept 3. Pool hours are 10 a.m. to noon, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. Admission is $2.

Florida B. Thomas Library
The Florida B. Thomas Library, 1010J Harlem Academy Ave. in Clewiston, invites the public to their Open House on Monday, Aug. 13, at 5-7 p.m. This event features free books, drawings, giveaways and light refreshments. Hendry County School District teachers will give a presentation on How to Excel.

Dementia Caregiver Support Group meeting set Aug. 16

Register for painting workshops at the Clewiston Library
Painting workshops hosted by the Confident Creator, Heather Caldwell, will be conducted at the Clewiston Public Library, 120 W. Osceola Ave., on Saturday, Aug. 18. The children’s workshop for ages 8 and up will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. An adult workshop will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There is a $15 registration fee, which includes all materials. Registration is required due to limited seating.

Florida B. Thomas Library to host U.S. Sugar presentation
U.S. Sugar representatives will give a presentation on careers at U.S. Sugar at the Florida B. Thomas Library, 1010J Harlem Academy Ave. in Clewiston, on Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 2:30 p.m. This session will include what U.S. Sugar looks for in employees, future employment possibilities and their industry as a whole.

Sign-up for free smoke detector at Florida B. Thomas Library
Stop by the Florida B. Thomas Library, 1010J Harlem Academy Ave. in Clewiston, to sign-up for a free smoke detector, and installation, from the American Red Cross. Sign-up now through Aug. 30. For information, call 863-902-3322.

Red Cross installs alarms
The American Red Cross is able to provide smoke alarms at no cost to at risk communities as well as provide fire safety education and check existing smoke alarms. They will install new smoke alarms at no cost in the City of Clewiston on Thursday, Aug. 30, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.. If you would like them to visit your home, call the Clewiston Library at 863-983-1493 to sign up.

Clewiston Christian School accepting VPK students
Clewiston Christian School (CCS), 601 Caribbean Ave. in Clewiston, is now accepting applications for their Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) program.
