Pat Dobbins, administrator for the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) in Hendry and Glades Counties, retired last month from a roughly 30-year career in the public health arena.

In a letter written by Dobbins, she said her retirement was not an easy decision.

“My last day in the office [was] May 29. It was not an easy decision to make because I truly enjoy public health and working with all of you in Hendry and Glades counties. Please know the staff members at FDOH Hendry and Glades are highly qualified professionals and they will continue the public health mission,” wrote Dobbins.

She thanked the commissioners of Hendry and Glades counties for their continued support of her public health missions and to all the community partners who have helped her during her time at FDOH.

“Over my 30-year career in public health, I feel the relationships we have built have made a great impact on the communities we serve and we have learned a great deal from each other. We know it takes teamwork to keep moving forward with the progresses we have made,” she wrote.

Dobbins concluded her retirement letter saying it was time to give the role to someone else, but there have been no announcements as to whom that “someone else” might be.

“It has been my privilege and honor to serve Hendry and Glades counties, but it is time to ‘pass the baton’ to someone else.

“Thank you again for your support over the years. I wish you all well and hope the partnerships and relationships will continue to evolve,” wrote Dobbins.
