Free e-books available to all Hendry County residents

ebooksThousands of titles are now available at your fingertips through the Hendry County Library System.

All you need is a library card and your PIN number.

Thanks to a $10,000 grant obtained through the Southwest Florida Library Network, Hendry County Libraries offers thousands of adult, kids and teen e-books to read on your computer, phone or tablet.

E-book categories include fiction, Christian, historical fiction, non-fiction, biography, cooking and kids and teens.

The books are available on the Hendry County Library website (www.hendrylibraries.org) through the OverDrive portal (just click the OverDrive link on the main site page). Titles include New York Times best sellers and popular kids and teens series.

E-books are available to anyone, anywhere, anytime free of charge so long as you have a library card and PIN number. The PIN numbers are set up at the library when you open a library card.

If you forget your PIN number, simply stop in to one of the three libraries in Clewiston, Harlem or LaBelle to re-enter a new PIN.

If you’re reading e-books inside one of the libraries, a PIN would not be necessary to access the titles.

Southwest Florida Library Network — a co-op of all libraries in the Southwest Florida area — contracted with OverDrive to provide a subscription and $7,000 worth of titles for the next three years.

OverDrive is one of the largest providers of digital media.

After the three-year grant period runs out, Clewiston Library Director Ava Barrett said the money to continue the use of OverDrive will be taken out of the library’s materials budget.

“It’s the start of something great. It’s the beginning of a really great collection,” said Barrett.

To access OverDrive’s thousands of free e-books, visit www.hendrylibraries.org and click on the OverDrive button. Enter your library card and PIN number and browse the vast collection of free titles.
