Hendry County unemployment is back in the double digits as of June 2015, according to data released by the Department of Economic Opportunity.
Unemployment reached 10.3 percent last month, making Hendry the county with the highest unemployment rate in the state, and the only county with a double-digit unemployment rate.
Unemployment rose 1.5 percent from May to June, but the county is still fairing better than it was this time last year. In June 2014, the county’s unemployment rate was 11.9 percent.
Following Hendry County for highest unemployment are Hardee County with 7.8 percent, Putnam County with 7.7 percent and Citrus County with 7.6 percent.
The county with the lowest unemployment is Monroe County with 3.6 percent. The state average is 5.5 percent, as is the national average.
