CLEWISTON — Members of the Hendry County Fair and Livestock Show organization appeared at the Clewiston City Commission meeting Monday, Jan. 22, to present a large American flag they’d purchased for display along U.S. 27 downtown. Yvonne Swindle spoke for the group when she said: “This is a dream that we have had. As you know, our neighboring county (Glades) has a large flag as you go over the bridge. And we had a kickoff last year, the All Men’s Bake-Off/Cake Sale. We earned well over $2,300, and we were able to get a flag, which is a 20-by-40.” From left along the wall with Ms. Swindle are fair organization members Lindsay Hall, Niki Kelley, Tara Belcher and Kevin Jarvis (holding flag). Now they’ll have another fundraiser to purchase a pole sturdy enough, estimated to cost $9,000. “So we are going to have a large flag for our highway. We … love our community and we want to show appreciation, for you all have helped us quite a bit for our fairgrounds,” Ms. Swindle added.
