Update from Hendry County Emergency Operations Center – Hurricane Matthew

LABELLE – Hendry County Emergency Management is currently monitoring (Level 1) Hurricane Matthew and will be providing updates as they become available.   Governor Rick Scott has issued a State of Emergency for the entire state of Florida and Hendry County will be issuing a local State of Emergency at 6:00 am Wednesday, October 5, 2016.  The Emergency Operations Center will be activated at a Level 2 (partial activation) at that time.  Decisions regarding school closures and shelter openings and locations will be made following the 2pm conference call with area agencies.
Residents are urged to put their storm preparedness plans into action.  At this time Hendry County could experience Tropical Storm force winds and rainfall related flash flooding in low lying areas.  Self-serve sand bag stations will be open in two locations, BRING YOUR OWN SHOVEL:
·         Clewiston – City of Clewiston Maintenance Yard, 1300 S. Olympia Ave., Clewiston, FL 33440
·         LaBelle – LaBelle Rodeo Grounds, 100 Rodeo Drive, LaBelle, FL 33935
