Bird watching trip planned

CLEWISTON — Would you like to go on a free, escorted birding “driving” trip to Stormwater Treatment Area 5/6 (STA 5/6)? On Saturday Nov. 3, local residents will have a special opportunity to participate in a trip.

Meet at the Clewiston McDonald’s at 7 a.m. to carpool to the STA 5/6 gate at the “new entrance” about 21 miles south of Clewiston, at the south end of Blumberg Road, or meet at 8:15 a.m. at the Blumberg Road STA 5/6 gate.

There are directional signs on County Road 835. This scheduled event led by Hendry-Glades Audubon volunteers will drive on levee roads around three cells to observe or photograph the 40 to 60 bird species normally found at the site in November.

To reserve your spot, text Margaret England at 863-517-0202 or register online for Saturday’s or upcoming driving trips. The link is at hendrygladesaudubon.org (STA 5/6 info.) The caravan around the levees will be limited to eight cars.

A limited number of binoculars and walkie-talkies will be available. Walking and bicycle access is available year-round on Friday, Saturday and Monday during daylight hours in designated areas of STA 5/6.
