Opal Royal Hancock celebrates her 95th birthday at the Clewiston Inn.

Clewiston’s leading lady, Opal Royal Hancock, turned 95 this week and celebrated with an informal meet and greet at the Clewiston Inn on June 29.

Members of the community were welcome to join Ms. Hancock at the Inn’s Sugar and Spice Room for a glass of wine and a trip down memory lane.

Ms. Hancock was born in Moultrie, Georgia on June 30, 1919 to Charlie and Zollie Royal.

The youngest of nine children, Ms. Hancock grew up on her family’s farm before meeting the love of her life, Cluie Hancock. Cluie and Opal were married on Sept. 28, 1940 and moved to Clewiston to start their new life together.

Ms. Hancock has devoted her life to her husband, her family and to the city of Clewiston. Known to many in the community as the informal ambassador for U.S. Sugar Corp., as well as the city of Clewiston and county of Hendry, Ms. Hancock has received approximately 40 awards in her lifetime from various organizations for her philanthropy.
