FORT MYERS — Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One, is holding a public information meeting to discuss the upcoming improvements to State Road 82 from Alabama Road to the Lee/Hendry County Line in Lee County. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 5, from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Veterans Park, 55 Homestead Road S., Lehigh Acres.
The meeting will be an open house format; no formal presentation will be made. Those attending the meeting will be able to view displays, ask questions, and discuss the work one-on-one with members of the project team.
The department’s contractor, Sacyr Construction, begins work summer 2018 to widen SR 82 to six lanes from Alabama Road to The Lee/Hendry County Line, with completion estimated by the end of 2020. This corridor will have a median separating three 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, 6.5-foot inside paved shoulders, bike lanes, a 5-foot sidewalk on the north side and a 10-foot shared-use path on the south side. The project will also add a grass median and LED lighting throughout this segment.
Crews will begin work summer 2018 with installation of construction signs and silt fencing for erosion control. Work occurs during the day and during nighttime/overnight hours. Lane closures on SR 82 may occur in both the westbound and eastbound travel lanes from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
