For roughly four decades, the Green Thumbs Garden Club has decorated the Clewiston library with natural foliage to bring the holiday season to life.
On Dec. 1, Garden Club members dusted off dozens of decorations that have been hidden away for almost a year to once again deck the halls of the public library.
Vice President of the garden club, Karen Cochrane, said the group has been using all-natural foliage to decorate for about 41 years. “And some of the decorations may even be that old,” she said.
The ladies of the club use their craftiness and talent to transform items such as palm fronds and twigs into beautiful, unique and one-of-a-kind holiday decorations. Using all-natural foliage not only makes the library look more festive, it makes the large open space smell wonderful.
Each year the members try to arrange the decorations differently and are always adding to their collection. And, with membership growing, the library was as busy as Santa’s workshop Tuesday morning.
Cochrane said the annual decorating event is one of the club’s favorite affairs. “It’s a sad day when we have to take everything down,” she said.
The Green Thumbs Garden Club welcomes new members and invites anyone to attend their monthly meetings. Look for those meetings in the Clewiston Chamber of Commerce Bulletin.
