Multiple fire departments responded to what authorities are calling a “suspicious” fire in Pioneer Plantation Saturday afternoon, May 13. One home, located near Seventh Street and Vero Avenue, was lost in the blaze. Along with firefighters from Pioneer, personnel and equipment from LaBelle, Clewiston, Montura, Felda, Collier and Glades counties helped to quell the fire. Personnel from the Department of Forestry and Glades Electric also responded. According to the Florida Region 6 Coordinator on Monday afternoon, May 15, the blaze, which had consumed some 450 acres of urban interface and wild land, was 80 percent contained.
