UPDATE: The benefit helped raise more than $350 for the Livestock Life 4-H and River Junior Soccer Team. It also got more than a dozen residents up and moving on a Saturday morning.
Local residents have organized a benefit this weekend that will get residents moving while benefiting two youth organizations.
Michelle and Tania Valadez will be hosting a Zumba Benefit Party this Saturday, Dec. 5 to help raise money for the Livestock Life 4-H Club and River Junior Soccer Team.
Michelle, who moved to Clewiston from New York last year, said she has always been a giving person but in New York City it was difficult to rally people around a cause.
After moving to Clewiston, however, she felt that the small town had the potential to help each other.
Her niece and nephew, Tania’s daughter and son, participated in the Livestock Life 4-H Club and River Junior Soccer Team. As Michelle watched them at their events, she said she wanted to help the programs raise money to make the programs even better for the kids.
So the first ever Zumba Benefit Party was born.
Michelle is a certified Zumba instructor and has called upon another instructor from Immokalee to help run the 1.75-hour class this Saturday. A third instructor from LaBelle may also be traveling to help lead the class.
Tania has helped with the logistics of the event, which include not only the class but refreshments served by the Livestock Life 4-H and River Junior organizations during the benefit.
Representatives from Herbalife will also be there with shakes and previews of their products and there will be a raffle for prizes.
All of the money raised from the raffle and the $10 admission into the class will be split equally between the two organizations. Whatever the two clubs raise from their refreshment tables will go towards their respective organization.
The benefit will take place this Saturday at the Clewiston High School Gymnasium from 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Registration will take place between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. The class begins at 10 a.m. Admission is $10.
