Accident leaves man in critical condition

CLEWISTON — A vehicular accident at US 27 and Lewis Blvd left a 26 year old man in critical condition.

According to the FHP on May 11 at 6:24 a.m., James Douglas Edens, 27, of Clewiston was driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee westbound on US 27 in the inside lane. He was traveling behind a westbound bus which began to slow down. The Jeep Cherokee swerved to avoid colliding with the bus, resulting in the left side of the Jeep colliding with a concrete barrier on the westbound median. The vehicle’s left front wheel disengaged from the Jeep’s front steering assembly. Mr. Edens lost control and the Jeep began to turn sharply to the right. Mr. Edens was ejected as his vehicle overturned in the westbound lanes of US 27.

Mr. Edens was transported by air to Lee Memorial Hospital and reported to be in critical condition.
