Clewiston man died in traffic fatality

CLEWISTON — A 76-year-old Clewiston man has died from a single vehicle crash Monday evening.

A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) press release stated Clifton Brown, 76, of Clewiston was pronounced dead at Hendry Regional Medical Center Jan 8.

According to the release at approximately 5:15 p.m. Mr. Brown was traveling east on Georgia Avenue west of 12th Street.

It is believed Mr. Brown suffered a medical condition behind the wheel which caused him to run off the roadway to the left and drove his Lincoln Towncar into the canal.

The car came to final rest facing east in the canal on the north shoulder of Georgia Avenue west of 12th Street.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by Trooper H. Garcia, FHP Crash Investigator and Corporal R. Sutherland, FHP Homicide Investigator.
