Clewiston man killed in crash on C.R. 835

A Clewiston man was killed in an accident early Wednesday morning on County Road 835, Florida Highway Patrol reports.

Marcus Van Billie, 48, was riding as a passenger in a 1999 Chevrolet vehicle when the driver lost control on C.R. 835 near Rogers Road in Hendry County, according to a report released by highway patrol.

The accident occurred at around 5:22 a.m. on Dec. 2.

The driver, 38-year-old Hope Overland, of Hollywood, Fla., reportedly overcorrected when the vehicle went off the roadway, causing it to slide across the road and overturn into a canal.

Overland and another passenger, Michael Dean, 42, of Plantation, Fla., were transported to Lee Memorial Hospital in serious condition. Billie was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the report, the accident was alcohol-related and potential charges against the driver are currently pending further investigation.
