Two Clewiston teens were arrested in connection with robberies that occurred in Lake Placid last week, the Highlands County Sheriff Office reported.
Kiante Shavar Gary, 18, and Darion Nesta Radcliffe, 17, were arrested earlier this week and charged with two counts robbery with a firearm, according to a press release issued by Highlands County Sheriff’s Office.
The teens are accused of robbing two gas stations in Lake Placid in the early morning hours of Jan. 3.
18-year-old Gary was reportedly arrested at Clewiston High School on Tuesday, Jan. 12 by Hendry County deputies on an out-of-county warrant. He was later extradited to Highlands County where he was booked at the Highlands County Jail. He remains in custody on a $200,000 bond.
17-year-old Radcliffe was reportedly arrested Wednesday, Jan. 13 by Hendry County deputies outside the sheriff’s office substation in Clewiston on an out-of-county warrant. It is reported Radcliffe was sitting in the back of a car in the parking lot of the substation when he was arrested. Radcliffe was transported to the Juvenile Justice facility in Fort Myers where he will remain until his trial, the release states.
According to the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office, Radcliffe has an extensive criminal history to include criminal mischief, armed burglary, grand theft, possession of a firearm, aggravated assault, kidnapping and prior robbery. He has reportedly been convicted three times for felonies.
The arrests come after a joint effort between the Clewiston Police Department, Hendry County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Placid Police Department and Highlands County Sheriff’s Office.
Highlands County Sheriff Susan Benton commented, “These arrests come with some sadness that two young lives have been so damaged and that their violence has increased over the past several years.”
