Crash leaves Clewiston man in serious condition

A 77-year-old Clewiston man was left in serious condition from injuries sustained in a two vehicle accident on Jan. 12.

A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) press release stated that at approximately 4:53 p.m. a 1998 Dodge Durango driven by John Hollingsworth was westbound on U.S. 27 in the inside lane.

A 2015 Volvo 660 truck driven by Luis Antonio Nazario, 39, of Orlando, was pulling a trailer eastbound on U.S. 27 in the outside lane.

The Durango traveled southwest into the median and the driver lost control of the vehicle. The Durango crossed the grass median and entered the eastbound lanes of U.S. 27. The left front of the vehicle struck the left side of the Volvo, rupturing the Volvo’s fuel tank.

The Durango was propelled back into the median and overturned onto its roof.

The Volvo rotated counterclockwise and came to rest in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 27.

Mr. Hollingsworth was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital where he was reported to be in serious condition.

No chargers were no made at the time of the press release due to the investigation pending.

Everyone was wearing seatbelts.
