A 30-year-old woman and four children, under the age of 10, traveling in her minivan sustained minor injuries in a Dec. 12 vehicular accident.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported a vehicular accident on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at approximately 7:35 a.m. at U.S. 27 and County Road 835 in Hendry County, involving a 2010 Ford F-250 pickup truck operated by Cecil Ford, 37, of Clewiston and a 2007 Toyota Sienna operated by Zeidy Castaneda, 30, of Moore Haven.
The truck was traveling north on County Road 835 (Evercane Road) and the minivan was traveling southeast on U.S. 27 in the outside lane. The truck stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of the two roads but failed to yield to oncoming traffic on U.S. 27.
The Ford truck then turned right onto U.S. 27. The Toyota Sienna swerved to avoid a collision and as a result the front of the minivan struck the left rear of the truck in the outside lane of U.S. 27.
Upon impact the Ford pickup truck began traveling south while rotating counter-clockwise and the pickup truck began to rotate clockwise. The Ford pickup truck overturned onto the shoulder and came to a rest upside down. The minivan came to a rest in the inside lane and center median of U.S. 27.
Zeidy Castaneda and all her passengers: Amauro, 4; Randy, 5; Troy, 8; and Leyvi Castaneda, 9 were reported to have minor injuries and were transported to Hendry Regional Medical Center by EMS. Cecil Ford was reported to be charged with violation of right-of-way.
All individuals were wearing seatbelts except for one.
