Detectives in Highlands County have arrested a man in connection with last week’s shooting in Lake Placid that ended in the death of Johnny Trevor Jackson, of Clewiston.
Detectives at the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18-year-old Wallace Damon Legree, of Lake Placid, on Friday, Nov. 14, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
Legree is charged with attempted murder in the second degree and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is currently being held in the Highlands County Jail with no bond until first appearance on the attempted murder charge and $75,000 cash or surety bond on the possession of a firearm charge, according to the release.
Detectives also arrested another man Friday in connection to a shooting that occurred in 2013, which involved one of the victims of last Monday’s shooting, Dejaveyon Gray. According to the release, detectives uncovered evidence during the current investigation that helped them identify Gray as the victim of a shooting that occurred in December 2013 in Highway Park.
Detectives arrested Legree’s brother, Wallace Latrell Legree III, 20, of Lake Placid, in connection with the December 2013 shooting and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm in public, shooting into an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is also currently being held in the Highlands County Jail with no bond until first appearance on the aggravated assault charge and a total of $76,000 cash or surety bond on the other charges, according to the release.
