Man arrested for DUI with 11 y.o. daughter in car

A Clewiston man was arrested and charged with DUI and child neglect when officers found him allegedly driving drunk with his 11-year-old daughter in the truck.

Nicodemus Leon Billie, 38, was pulled over on July 3 in the area of Olympia Street and El Paso Avenue for driving without headlights in the rain, according to an arrest report released by the Clewiston Police Department.

The officer reportedly smelled alcohol as Billie attempted to hand him his license and registration. Billie was unsteady on his feet and refused to submit to field sobriety exercises when the officer asked him to step out of his black pickup truck, according to the report.

Billie’s 11-year-old daughter, who was riding in the passenger seat when her father was pulled over, allegedly yelled to the officer that her father was “more sober today than yesterday.”

Billie was arrested and charged with DUI and child neglect because he failed to provide his daughter “with the proper supervision required to protect her from bodily harm,” according to the report.

Officers then notified the Department of Children and Families.

Billie was arrested earlier this year and charged with cruelty towards a child, act that could cause mental or physical injury, according to his booking history in Hendry County.

Billie was booked in the Hendry County jail on July 4 and released the same day on a $18,500 bond with a notice to appear in court on July 27.
