Motorcyclist killed in Montura wreck

A motorcyclist was killed near Montura Ranch Sunday morning when a pickup truck passed him on a double yellow line, Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The incident occurred at around 11:20 a.m. on July 12 near the intersection of Sam Jones Trail (County Road 833) and Keri Road (County Road 832).

Scott Ralph Lord, 52, of Deerfield Beach, was driving a 2007 Honda VTX 1300 northbound on Sam Jones Trail with approximately 15 other motorcyclists behind him, according to a report released by highway patrol.

When Lord turned left onto Keri Road, he reportedly collided with a 1994 Chevrolet Pickup Truck, driven by Melvin W. James, 55, of South Bay.

James reportedly attempted to pass the motorcyclists, despite the double yellow line that separates the north and southbound lanes of Sam Jones Trail, and turned left onto Keri Road while still in the southbound lane.

As Lord and James turned left at the same time, the front of James’ pickup hit the left rear side of Lord’s motorcycle.
Lord was pronounced deceased on the scene. Highway patrol reported that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

James was transported to Hendry Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. He was charged with passing in a no passing zone by highway patrol troopers, which is noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a moving violation.
