Pedestrian killed on U.S. 27 near Moore Haven

A LaBelle man was fatally injured in an accident that occurred in Glades County early this morning, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports.

Sarah Ibietatorremendia, 21, of Clewiston, was driving south in the inside lane of U.S. 27 near the intersection of County Road 720 Southeast near Moore Haven when the crash occurred, according to a press release issued by FHP.

Rafael Marquez, 52, of LaBelle, was reportedly flagging for crossing farm equipment when he was struck by Ibietatorremendia’s 2014 Kia Optima.

The accident occurred at around 7:09 a.m.

It is reported Marquez was pronounced dead on the scene and Ibietatorremendia sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Even hours after the accident occurred, cars remained on the side of the road near the scene of the accident and a group of people stood in a circle holding hands and praying.

The report states the accident was not alcohol related and charges are pending.
