Shots fired near Clewiston levee

The victims of a shooting that occurred near the Clewiston boat ramps Monday morning will not press charges, according to the Clewiston Police Department.

At around 3 a.m. Monday, July 20, an unknown subject reportedly fired three rounds at a passing vehicle, striking it twice. Two people were in the vehicle when it was struck, but no one was injured, the department reported.

The shooting occurred on Herbert Hoover Dike Road near the levee.

According to police, an altercation had occurred at around 1 a.m. the same morning near the boat basin bathrooms. That altercation may have led to the shooting.

Police said that the victims will not press charges against the unknown shooter. Though the state could pursue the case and press lesser charges against the shooter, without cooperation from the victims, the department said it is difficult and unlikely.
