Traffic accident claims pedestrian’s life

CLEWISTON — A 66-year-old pedestrian succumbed to injuries she received from being struck by a car at the intersection of Davidson Road and Hooker Point Road on Sunday, Oct. 28.

A Florida Highway Patrol press release stated that at 7:55 p.m., a 2013 Toyota Corolla operated by Jose Romero, 22, of Clewiston was westbound on Davidson Road approaching the intersection of Hooker Point Road.

At the same time, a pedestrian, Norma Torres, 66, of Clewiston, was crossing Davidson Road from south to north. Ms. Torres entered the westbound lane directly into the path of the Toyota. She was struck with the left front of the vehicle.

It was reported that Ms. Torres sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Charges were pending at the time of the news release.

The accident was investigated by FHP Trooper M.T. Farris and homicide investigator Corporal J.D. Close.
