Two shot during home invasion

On Oct. 12 at approximately 2:50 p.m. Detective Nestor Echevarria and detectives responded to Pioneer Street in reference to a robbery in progress. Upon arrival Detective Nestor reported made contact with two victims who were bleeding profusely. Marjorie Hunton, 85, had been shot in the forehead area and Timothy Hunton, 59, had been shot in the back of the head and his hand.

According to Detective Nestor Echevarria’s report, Mr. Hunton stated a white male wearing a blue shirt, dark shorts and a bandanna that covered the bottom of his face entered their residence uninvited, holding a small revolver. He stated that the suspect shot him and his mother while they were sitting on their front porch.

Mr. Hunton stated that he and his mother were home watching TV when they saw a man in the doorway holding the revolver. The man demanded prescription medication and as Mr. Hunton proceed to get up from the sofa, the man shot him in the back of the head. Mr. Hunton reportedly proceed to walk around the sofa to confront the suspect and his mother was shot on the right side of her forehead.

Mr. Hunton stated that once he walked around the sofa, he was shot a second time on the hand but he was able to punch the suspect on the side of the head/face area and the suspect fled from the home and took a plastic bag of medication that was next to the front door.

Mr. Hunton reportedly knew the suspect from prior contact and he had been a suspect during a residential burglary in his residence in 2015. Mr. Hunton reportedly identified the suspect as Michael Villarreal, 23, from a photo array and Detective Echevarria requested an arrest warrant to be issued.

Hendry County Sheriff Deputy David Cameron arrested Michael Villarreal, 23, of Moore Haven on Oct. 13 for attempted murder, robbery to a residence home invasion with a firearm all of which are first degree felonies.

Mr. Hunton and Mrs. Hunton were transported to the hospital by County Emergency Medical Services.
