LABELLE — The LaBelle location of Florida SouthWestern State College is excited to offer a new program this summer called “Curtis Pathway Prep.” This program is entirely free to students who are accepted, and there are 60 seats available.
This is a six week program offered over the summer from June 21 – August 2. It is a non-credit bearing offering focusing on Math and English academic instruction from current college faculty to help prepare students for college success. The program will also feature soft skills workshops from the Academic Success Center, library, financial aid, and advising team as well as some social activities. There are three evenings with presentations for parents, which will be available in both English and Spanish. The program meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30-4:30 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-5:15 p.m.
The program is open to first time in college students (who have been admitted to FSW for a Fall semester following their high school graduation) to help ensure that they are college ready and successful in their first semester. Also, any students who will be enrolled in any Hendry or Glades County high school next year may also apply if they have not yet been able to pass a portion or portions of the PERT test, which allows them access to dual enrollment classes.
This is a tremendous opportunity for any graduating seniors who would benefit from additional academic preparation for college. For incoming first time in college students, the goal will be to enter their freshman semester fully prepared to meet the rigor of college with high success and possibly test into higher lever entrance classes by the end of the summer program. For high school students, the goal will be to obtain passing scores on the college entrance test, PERT, allowing them to register for dual enrollment courses for the Fall 2018 semester.
