CLEWISTON — The Clewiston High School STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) Club traveled to Sebring to attend the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo on Saturday, Jan. 27, to learn more about this career opportunity in the area. Students met Shaesta Waiz, the first certified civilian female pilot from Afghanistan, enjoyed a virtual flight and flew in a 90-year old-airplane. Later, Jones and Rivera, along with classmates Marshall Kurtz, Julian Romero, Edward Padilla and Argelio Rodriguez (PHOTO 2), were able to fly on a 1928 Ford Tri-motor aircraft for 15 minutes around Sebring. This particular plane, called the Wichita City, was built in 1928.
