Clewiston leads the way in soccer around the lake

• The Clewiston Tigers boys soccer team continued their dominant performance and increased their record to a perfect 7-0 after defeating rival LaBelle 2-1 on Dec. 4 and Gateway Charter 2-0 on Dec. 6. Tigers freshman Emilio Rico and senior Cristobal Antonio each had a goal against LaBelle, while last week’s Athlete of the Week, sophomore Josue Gonzalez, and senior Angel Reyes each accounted for one goal against Gateway Charter. The perfect Tigers continue their march to another playoff berth when they face the winless Island Coast Gators on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. on Cane Field in Clewiston.

• The Okeechobee Brahmans boys soccer team secured their first home victory and increased their record to 3-3 with a 2-0 victory over Palm Beach Lakes on Dec. 10. Before winning over Palm Beach Lakes, all the Brahman wins had come on the road against Treasure Coast and Martin County. The win was a big morale boost to an Okeechobee team that had dropped the last two games, a 2-0 loss against Dwyer on Nov. 30 and 3-2 against Suncoast on Dec. 7. The Brahmans have plenty of talent, but just appear to need to more even production from their entire team. Dwyer was able to score both its goals against Okeechobee once the Brahmans sent in a rotation to rest some of their players. The win over Palm Beach Lakes should give the Brahmans some momentum going into their district match against a tough Jensen Beach team on Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. at Okeechobee High School.

• The Glades Day Gators boys soccer team are 1-1 after they upset a 4-1 Berean Christian Bulldogs team that is coming off an apperance in the regional finals last year. The Gators only scored one goal against the Bulldogs, but that’s all they would need as their defense shut out Berean Christian. Glades Day now faces a struggling 1-6 Atlantic Christian team on Dec. 13 in Belle Glade. One game to keep your eye on is when the powerhouse Clewiston Tigers come into Belle Glade on Dec. 19. The Gators will be the underdogs in that match but will have a chance to pull off another upset.

• The Pahokee Blue Devils boys soccer team is still searching for its first win after opening 0-3 to start the season. The Blue Devils have been held scoreless so far in the 2018 season, losing 8-0 to Royal Palm Beach, 4-0 to Palm Beach Central and 6-0 to Benjamin. Pahokee has a chance to turn things around when the team plays Oxbridge Academy on Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. and rival Glades Central on Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. Both games will be played at Pahokee High School.

• The Glades Central Raiders boys soccer team is also winless on the season at 0-3. The Raiders lost 3-1 to Palm Beach Central on Nov. 12, 3-0 to Royal Palm Beach on Nov. 13 and 5-4 against Palm Beach Lakes on Dec. 5. The Raiders will have a chance to earn their first win against a Pahokee team that could also still be searching for its first win when the two teams meet on Dec. 14.
