Clewiston Sports News in Brief

• Clewiston’s girls basketball team defeated Cypress Lake to finish the first half of the high school season, 60-56 on Dec. 14.

The Lady Tigers led 18-15 after the first quarter and 29-26 at halftime. The Lady Tigers led 48-41 after the third quarter.

Shonteri Blanks led the Lady Panthers with 25 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.

Clewiston improved to (3-5) while Cypress Lake fell to (4-8).

• The Clewiston girls’ soccer team defeated Sebring in impressive fashion on Dec. 22, 9-0. Kelsey Allison continued a strong senior season with four goals. Selena Gonzales had two goals for the Lady Tigers. Alayna Esparza, Jaylynn Moreno and Isabella Perez scored one goal; and Carley Morrell, Nicole Rote, Courtney Blanset, Perez and Norma Olvera provided assists. Ashley Roth and Courtney Blanset shared the shutout in goal.

The team’s next game is at Naples on Jan. 6.

The junior varsity Lady Tigers prevailed over Sebring 1-0 on a goal by Lillibeth DeLaCruz. Shelsey Flores had a shutout as the Tiger net minder.

The CHS soccer teams also held their annual alumni games on Friday night, Dec. 23 at Cane Field. All proceeds raised were donated to the Herring family. They played alumni vs the current high school team.
Coach Keri Alford said the event was a great time for a great cause, “It just goes to show, you’re never to old for a little ‘kick in the grass!!’”

• The Clewiston boys’ soccer team lost to Glades Central 2-1 in a hotly contested match in Belle Glade on Dec. 21.

• The Clewiston boys’ basketball team competes at the Lake Placid Christmas Tournament starting Dec. 28 through Dec. 29.
