The Clewiston News

Football around the lake this week

• The bad news: Clewiston has dropped it’s first two games of the year after losing 30-10 to Monsignor Pace. The good news: Neither loss was to a district rival. The young Tigers team has the chance to gain some more experience before facing the majority of their district foes later in the season. Next they’ll face the Labelle Cowboys at home on Sept. 7. LaBelle comes into the game 2-0.

• Glades Central pulled off a comeback against Oakleaf, winning 32-25, bringing the Raiders to a 1-1 record for the year. Next they’ll face the tough Dwyer Panthers in a home game on Sept. 7. The Panthers are coming off a 30-13 loss to Atlantic.

• The Moore Haven Terriers got their season started with a win against Lake Placid last week. The Terriers held off a late rally by Lake Placid to win 14-6. Now they’ll enjoy a bye week while keeping an eye on what their next opponent, the Neumann Celtics, do in their game against Gateway Charter this week.

• The Glades Day Gators bounced back from their loss against Benjamin in the season opener with a dominating 41-10 win against district foe Community School of Naples. Now the Gators are preparing to host their first home game of the season on Sept. 7 against the King’s Academy Lions. The Lions are coming off two impressive victories over St. John Paul II Academy and John Carroll Catholic and should be a tough test for the Gators.

• Coming off their bye week the Pahokee Blue Devils will face the Atlantic Eagles in Pahokee on Sept. 7. Atlantic is coming off a win against the Dwyer Panthers in which their defense dominated the Panthers offense for the entire game. The stout Atlantic defensive line versus the potent Blue Devil running game should make for one heck of a ballgame in the muck.

• The Okeechobee Brahmans have a bye week to recover from two back to back blowout losses after falling to Lake Wales 46-6. Okeechobee has shown flashes on offense but the Brahmans defense has been torn apart in both games they’ve played in 2018. This could be just bad timing in having to face two high powered offenses back to back, but it could also be the fact that the team has struggled to get on the field to practice due to inclement weather.
