Lake Okeechobee to see more action with T-H Marine FLW Bass Fishing League Gator Division Tournament

The T-H Marine FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) tournament season will continue Saturday, Feb. 10, for Gator Division anglers with an event on Lake Okeechobee. Up to 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000 respectively in the one-day tournament.

The tournament is hosted by Roland & Mary Ann Martin’s Marina & Resort, 920 E. Del Monte Ave. in Clewiston

When the FLW Tour visited Lake Okeechobee this past weekend (Jan. 25-28), Tim Frederick of Leesburg, Florida, caught his tournament-winning fish in the Spoil Islands area near Harney Pond. Frederick used Texas-rigged stickbaits and swim jigs to target fish near reeds and lily pads. Anglers in this BFL Gator Division tournament will likely follow a similar pattern. Fans will also see other popular Lake Okeechobee tactics in play, including flipping creature baits to grass mats. A five-bass limit weighing 22 pounds will likely be needed to take top honors at this early-February BFL tournament.

The 2018 BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 128 tournaments throughout the season, five qualifying events in each division. The top 45 boaters and co-anglers from each division, along with the five winners of the qualifying events, will advance to one of six regional tournaments where they are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American. The 2018 BFL All-American will be held May 31 – June 2 at Cross Lake in Shreveport, Louisiana, and is hosted by the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission. Top performers in the BFL can move up to the Costa FLW Series or even the FLW Tour.
