Four-year starter for the Tigers Tyrin Summers will be putting on a new uniform in the 2016 season after signing with the University of Cincinnati on Friday, Dec. 18.

Friday also marked the last day of high school for the player and homecoming king, as he will be starting at the university in the Spring 2016 semester on early admission.

Friends, family, coaches and teammates gathered in the high school’s media room to celebrate the momentous occasion, including his father and coach of four years, Phil Summers.

“It’s bitter sweet. Practice is family time. That’s been a great part of the past four years. It’s a perfect match made in heaven,” said Phil, who played on a National Championship team himself at Virginia Tech.

Head coach Paul Walker said it was a pleasure to coach Tyrin and Clewiston would be sending another great player out into the world.

“He has great work ethic. He’s one of the first guys in the gym and one of the last to leave. He did everything we could ask. He’s respectful, high in character, Cincinnati’s going to get a great young man and athlete,” said Coach Walker.

Tyrin, who plans to study pharmacy, said he is nervous and excited to start his new journey.

“I’m excited about getting on campus and excelling academically and on the football field,” he said.

Tyrin’s mother, Michelle, is sad to see her only child go.

“I’m going to miss him but I’m excited for him. He put in a lot of hard work for this. He’ll do well,” she said.
