Tigers fall to Pahokee

CLEWISTON – Clewiston’s offense struggled and Pahokee broke loose in the second half as Pahokee defeated Clewiston, 28-0,in high school football action Friday, Sept. 23, at Cane Field.

Rodney Mckay rushed for over 150 yards and three touchdowns for Pahokee and the depth, size and speed of the Blue Devils defense made things tough on the Tigers throughout the night.

Pahokee improved to (5-0) while Clewiston fell to (2-2).

Pahokee took the lead on a 35 yard drive that began late in the first quarter. A key pass interference penalty against the Tigers gave Pahokee a chance in the red zone. Rodney McKay ran hard to the Clewiston five yard line and quarterback Tyrone Smith hit Tyron Arnett on a five yard touchdown pass on third and goal to give the Blue Devils a 7-0 lead.

Clewiston made some plays in the first half but couldn’t string plays together. Charles Felton broke loose for a 15 yard gain. Trayquan Williams broke loose for a 26 yard gain and Menta Jones took a quarterback draw for 15 yards. Jones made his season debut after suffering a broken collar bone over the summer.

Pahokee had their troubles with a couple of dropped passes. Arnett was wide open late in the first half but the Devils couldn’t make the connection at the Tiger 30.

Clewiston’s secondary came up with a big interception after Pahokee drove deep into Tiger territory in the first quarter. However they couldn’t move the ball and were forced to punt out of their own end zone which led to the short Pahokee touchdown drive.

Pahokee had an impressive 92 yard touchdown drive in the third quarter to increase the lead to 14-0. Smith threw a couple of nice passes and McKay had some strong runs. The drive ended with McKay’s five yard touchdown run.

McKay broke loose for a 75 yard touchdown run late in the third quarter to increase the Pahokee lead to 21-0.

A half back pass from Williams to Jones that gained 25 yards helped the Tigers threaten in the third but the drive stalled inside the Pahokee 20 yard line.

Clewiston converted a fourth down and five in the fourth quarter thanks to a 20 yard pass to Winston Gilkes, and some strong runs by Jones. The drive reached the Pahokee 15 yard line but a fourth down pass to Jadan Thompson fell incomplete.

Roy Walker had a sack for Pahokee. Keyshawn Davis knocked down a Pahokee pass for the Tigers. Jim-Travis Gray broke loose for a 32 yard run for Pahokee. Anthony Walker returned a kick for 25 yards for Clewiston. The game start was delayed two hours by rain and lightning. Markevious Terry rushed for 43 yards in the fourth quarter for CHS. Jadan Thompson wore jersey #4 to honor Devon Jackson who was seriously injured earlier this month.
