Tonight, the Tigers will host Somerset Academy from Pembroke Pines in a 7 p.m. district contest and the last regular season home game. The Tigers will, for the second consecutive week, be facing a winless team. The Panthers are 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the district.
Clewiston unveiled some new offensive formations in last week’s win against Monsignor Pace and another week of practice has helped fine tune the effort. Understandably, the Tigers drew several penalties last week associated with the new alignments and plays. Hopefully, they can reduce the count and yardage damage from penalties in this game.
Senior quarterback Davis Witt showed that his running abilities can be helpful in many ways. He had a couple of nice runs last week, including a nifty 25 yard touchdown run on a quarterback draw. The offensive changes alter the defensive team’s plans as they must now account for a mobile quarterback. This also helps take pressure off the pass rush and aids the aerial attack.
The Tigers need this win to improve their district record to 1-1 and keep playoff hopes alive, in what will be an uphill climb with their final district game against Glades Central on Oct. 30. Also, the outcome of this week’s University-Glades Central game will impact the picture.
