The Tigers (2-2) travel to Fort Lauderdale tonight for their first District 7A-4 game of the season as they take on the University High Sharks. Game time is 7 p.m.
Clewiston enters the game in good shape physically and prepared to rebound after two straight losses to some tough competition. Hopefully, the Tigers have grown and learned through those two setbacks and are prepared to get their district completion off to a good start.
University was not highly rated in pre-season discussion but has surprised with a 3-1 record, including a resounding 68-0 district win last week over Somerset Academy, a team that the Tigers will face in a couple of weeks. Running back Kenny McIntosh appears to be the main cog in the Sharks’ spread offense attack and he also returns kickoffs.
The Tiger defense is coming off a strong performance in the Pahokee game. Senior linebackers Maurice Murphy and Teandre Johnson lead the team with 21 solo tackles each. Fellow linebacker Juan Norton is just behind them with 19 solos. A key to the game will be keeping the ball away from the University offense and giving the Tiger offense good field position and room to operate.
